Philadelphia Map of Police Involved Shootings

Final illustration for the design process.

This project was an exercise in branding and information design. Our main inspiration was the works of W.E.B. Du Bois who created information diagrams around the turn of the 20th century. He created works illustrating race differences in beautiful ways, showing that information diagrams can be more than simple bar graphs.

I worked with a small team, our goal was to create visually interesting and engaging pieces that demonstrate issues affecting the Philadelphia area. I was a part in the creation of the branding for this project, as well as the copywrite.

Each member had their own graph to show off, and mine was of Police Involved Shootings. The final piece shows the amount of police involved shootings in each zip code within the county of Philadelphia.

The final website can be found here.

Police Involved Shootings

For my own work, I decided that I wanted to work in police involved shootings throuought the county of Philadelphia, depicting each zip code with their own statistic. I used overlapping bubbles to illustrate quantity of police involved shootings. In the copy, I had listed full statistics gathered, including police casualties to compare to non-police casualties.
