Smoke-free Philly
UArts/Ashes Logo
We had created a small brand image for this project called UArts/ashes. This logo was designed to match with the University of the Arts logo because they are intended to be displayed together as seen. The No-Smoking icon was designed to be as recognisable as possible without using basic simplifications of this symbol.
This project was proposed in a class where organizations approached the school with design inqueries. I was part of a two person team to design a non-smoking campaign by Philadelphia Department of Health’s Smoke-Free Philly team. We decided to create a non-smoking campaign for the University of the Arts that included three main areas of focus: Policy, Referral, and Awareness.
Policy aimed to rework the already existing Student Handbook. The school currently refers to violators of smoking regulations as aggressors against the school. Any steps the school has in place for students smoking on campus is to punish them for smoking. I wanted to change this to have the school try to help students who are struggling with addiction by offerin cessation tools, such as niccotine patches and gum, and programs taught by professionals in the field of smoking cessation.
The Referral program was going to let passerbys know of help that exists, that they would be able to reach out if the school was unable to reach them. This would be done with stealth advertisement with subtle plaques and non-specific poster design.
The Awareness campaign saught to make students aware of problems that would arrise from smoking. Designs would focus on specific majors and how smoking would affect them specifically down the road.
Health Office Brochure Page 1
This was designed to be a trifold for use by the Health Office on campus. We wanted to show a timeline of recovery. This was done in contrast to the repeated theme of demonstrating the damage of smoking.

This is a page from the final presentation of this project where it outlines the current existing policy.
Vectorised Informational Map
This is a thematically appropriate map of the block that UArts’ Terra Hall exists on. It demonstrates the 20 foot radius around each building door, thus showing a comprehensive map of where one is and is not allowed to smoke on this block.
Health Office Brochure Page 2
This side was designed to be as simple as possible, yet as compelling as possible. The title was designed to make the viewer curious and likely to approach. The design from the opposite side was brought to an end on this side of the page.

This page goes into detail of what we expect out of this project if we were to see it work.
